The solar power at the edge of earth’s atmosphere was found to be approximately 1400 W/m2 . If the distance between sun (D=1.4x106km) and earth (D=1.3x104km) is 1.5x108 km, determine the emissive power of the sun. Considering this result, what is the sun’s temperature (assume blackbodylike properties)? At what wavelength does the emissive power reach its maximum? Now consider to surface of the earth to be black, with the sun being the only energy source, what surface temperature would you expect on earth? |
