PhD Position in Reservoir Simulation at the School of Earth Sciences, The Ohio State University

A PhD position is available in the area of numerical modeling of multiphase compositional flow processes in subsurface porous media. Applications are in the area of energy production from conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs, as well as problems in hydrogeology. The successful applicant will collaborate with Dr Moortgat’s Reservoir Simulation Group and build on an in-house higher-order finite element simulator for fractured reservoirs to study problems such as fluid transport in fractured shale formations. The research will involve high performance computing and take advantage of the Ohio Supercomputer Center.
The computational skills, with applications to energy resources, that the student will develop are highly desirable and will open up attractive future career prospects.
Throughout the PhD program, funding will be provided through a combination of GRA and GTA support.

Applications should have a B.S. or M.Sc. degree in Earth Sciences, physics, mathematics, astronomy, engineering, or similar. Math and computer (programming) skills are highly desirable.
