It would be helpful if the authors provided additional background about swine farming in the region of interest. Also, it would be helpful to know more about the nature and approximate size of swine operations, especially among facilities reporting infections of P. multocida in their swine herds. Also, are estimates available on the approximate density swine farms in each affected province? It would be helpful to know if there is any seasonality in swine farming operations, such that the number of young animals may be greater at a certain time of the year. Is there a season when pigs are more likely to be taken to market and when the swine populations would be more concentrated?
