关于美国联陪J1签英语要求 已有5人参与

最近很多师弟师妹问我到美国访问的英语要求，我在我们学校找到了相关信息，是美国国务院发布针对J-1签证访问学生的英语要求，仅供大家参考，希望对各位申请联陪的虫子有帮助，祝各位一切顺利！ New Language Proficiency Requirement for Visiting Scholars on J-1 Visas. The Department of State (DOS) has established a new rule (effective January 2015) requiring English language proficiency for exchange visitors coming to the U.S. on J-1 visas. The DOS expects sponsors to ensure that exchange visitors have “sufficient English proficiency to perform their jobs, navigate daily life in the United States, read and comprehend program materials, understand fully their responsibilities, rights, and protections, and know how to obtain assistance.” The new law requires sponsors to use one of the following objective measurements of English language proficiency: • A recognized English language test; • Signed documentation from an academic institution or English language school; or • A documented interview conducted by the sponsor either in-person or by videoconferencing Sponsors must retain evidence of how they measured applicants’ English language proficiency so that it can be made available to the U.S. Department of State upon request. Scholars must identify a High Beginner level proficiency or greater to be eligible to participate in a J scholar program at Georgia Tech. The Georgia Institute of Technology will accept the following as a demonstration of English language proficiency for visiting scholars on J-1 visas: 1) An iBT TOEFL or IELTS test score demonstrating a High Beginner level English which was taken in the last two years. 2) Evidence that an academic degree was earned from an institution of higher education that was taught in English, such as a transcript from a college or university. When it is not obvious the language of instruction was English, the scholar must also provide evidence that the language of instruction in the classroom was English. 3) Evidence of participation in an Exchange Visitor Program in the U.S. within the last two years 4) A report showing at minimum a High Beginner level English on the Georgia Tech Language Institute Proficiency Assessment. When a scholar demonstrates a High Beginner level of proficiency, per the matrix below, the scholar will be expected to register for a Language Institute Every Day Conversation class. The host department will be expected to incur the $100 charge for enrolling in the class if the J Exchange Visitor’s financial sponsor will not cover the charge. When a scholar’s objective measure identifies they have an intermediate or advanced level of English proficiency they are exempt from enrolling in the Everyday Conversation class. The assessment can be arranged by submitting a request form with payment information. The assessment will be done online via WebEx and e-mail. Scholar must have a microphone and a webcam, and access to e-mail and the internet. The test will assess the following skills, with strongest emphasis on the oral interview. The charge for administering the assessment is $50 and can be paid by the host department OR the J scholar. Two-three days following the assessment, a copy of the assessment report will be sent by the Language Institute to the sponsor, the Office of International Education, and the scholar. The assessment will take approximately 30-40 minutes and is comprised of: • Oral Interview • Reading Comprehension Task • Listening Comprehension Task [ 来自版块群 北美公派 ] |
