It is thus not only intended as a reference for researchers in the field, but also to give graduate students an insight into the basic theories of the field.

Written by the Nobel Laureate himself, the concepts described in this book have formed the basis for three further Nobel Prizes in Physics within the last decade.

Outstanding Achievement

This is an outstanding book and my only complaint is Prof. Glauber did not produce it earlier. With respect to to his earlier papers from the 60's, they have been put in the context of today's terminology making them easy to read. The other aspects of the book fill a gap which is unfortunately missing in the quantum optics litertaure, or al least difficult to find in one place. The field of quantum theory in optical coherence is an important area of optics which does not receive, in my opinion, sufficient attention. This is particularly true in biomedical optics. This book has been badly needed.
