His focus is on the development of new materials, components and cell design for lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors. Martin Winter currently holds a professorship for “Applied Materials Science for Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion” at the Institute of Physical Chemistry (IPC) at Muenster University. The professorship developed from an endowed professorship funded by Volkswagen, Evonik Industries and Rockwood Lithium from 2008 to 2012. Brief biography 1993: Chemistry studies at the University of Münster 1995: Ph.D. in natural sciences (Prof. Jürgen Besenhard), post-doc at the Paul Scherrer Institute, Villigen (Switzerland) 1996: Post-doctoral lecture qualification at the Institute of Chemical Technology for Inorganic Materials, Graz University of Technology (Austria) 1999: Appointed professor 2007: University professor and head of the Institute of Chemical Technology for Inorganic Materials, Graz University of Technology- (Austria) 2008-2012: Endowed professorship for Applied Materials Sciences for Electrochemical Energy Storage and Energy Conversion at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at Muenster University since 2013: Professorship for Applied Materials Science for Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at Muenster University since 2015: Founding Director of the Helmholtz Institute Münster HI MS “Ionics in Energy Storage” Honors, awards and recognitions: 2015: Battery Division Research Award of The Electrochemical Society (ECS) 2015: Fellow of The International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) 2015: Technology Award of The International Battery Materials Association (IBA) 2013: Fellow of The Electrochemical Society 2012: MEET Battery Research Center recognized as, “Site of Progress” (“Ort des Fortschritts”) by the state of NRW 2003: Austrian Kardinal Theodor Innitzer-Award in Natural Sciences 2002: Battery Division Technology Award of The Electrochemical Society (ECS) 2002: Austrian Josef-Krainer-Honorary Award for Chemical Technology 2001: Research Award of The International Battery Materials Association (IBA) 1997: Award of the Division of Applied Electrochemistry of the German Society of Electrochemistry for the best Ph.D. thesis in the 3 years term: 1995 – 1997 1995: Excellence Award: University of Münster for an outstanding doctoral exam |
