µ¥Î»£ºSchool of Life Sciences, University of Warwick ÏîÄ¿¼ò½é: You will work with Prof. Orkun S Soyer and other team members on a large-scale multi-institution projecton ¡°engineering synthetic microbial communities for biogas production¡±. You will focus on engineering microbial communities from the bottom up and expand our ongoing work in this direction. In particular, you will combine modelling, real-time monitoring, and microbial genetics to construct, stabilise, and monitor existing synthetic communities, as well as extend these with new species towards higher system complexity. The resulting, engineered system will be applicable for conversion of organic waste products into methane, as well as high value and commodity chemicals. At the same time, they will serve as amodel system for understanding open questions in microbial ecosystem. Our approach is motivated by a desire to achieve synthetic biology at the level of communities, i.e. designing ecosystems through species interactions. To this end, more classic synthetic engineering at the cell level will be used as needed and to stabilise engineered synthetic communities. It is expected that you will engage with both experimental construction of synthetic communities and their mathematical and computational modelling.
