A postdoc position is available immediately for an externally funded project on ocean wave energy in the department of Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Tech. The objective is to develop and test a novel mechanical solution for converting ocean wave energy into electricity. Prototypes of 5kW - 30KW will be designed, tested, and demonstrated in both labs and in oceans. The machine/mechatronics design skills are essential and the knowledge in vibration/dynamics, fluid, control and power electronics will be a plus. The postdoctoral fellow will also have opportunity to participate in scholarly research in the NSF IUCRC Center of Energy Harvesting and to gain broad training including graduate student mentoring.
