| After adding PbO to glass, due to the existence of two unpaired electrons in the outermost shell of the Pb2+ electron layer, the Pb2+ ion becomes polarized and absorbs the O2- anion easily. Such polarization causes changes in the ions, shortening distances between ions, thus resulting not only in closing the distance between Pb and O ions, but also increases the force field. This in turn causes O2- to increase attraction such that the bonds between Al and O, as well as Si and O to be weakened. |
