弗吉尼亚理工2016春季研究生入学申请截至日期为2015年9月15日。 指导老师是Information Retrieval及数字图书馆方向的权威Ed Fox https://fox.cs.vt.edu/, h-index = 55, refer to: https://web.cs.ucla.edu/~palsberg/h-number.html 参与弗吉尼亚理工图书馆与计算机系、机械工程系，以及其他系所的合作研究工作并从中提取硕士或博士论文题目，可选Information Retrieval，大数据，云计算，自然语言处理等多个方向。 要求编程能力强，学习、思维及创新能力强。 Graduate Assistant University Libraries, Virginia Tech JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION(S): Graduate Assistant (GA) ELIGIBILITY: Graduate Assistantship (GA) eligibility is determined by the Graduate school (graduateschool.vt.edu/financial/assistantships) STIPEND: Assistantship INCLUDES a tuition waiver; stipend to be determined. HOURS PER WEEK: 20 (i.e., regular full-time GA) EVALUATION: All GAs will be evaluated on job performance. TIME PERIOD: One week before start of 2016 Spring Semester through exam week of Spring Semester, renewable upon satisfactory evaluation. GAs are required to work their regular hours during exam weeks. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Work hours during breaks are negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have strong, verifiable programming and research skills. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit software code, links to code repositories, and/or publications as supplementary application materials. We will consider applicants with a bachelor’s degree (completed before Spring 2016), provided they have substantial programming and research experience. Specific programming skills required: Substantial experience with programming languages like Java, C/C++, Python, PHP, Ruby. Prior experience with computer systems administration, web development, databases, Linux, cloud computing, big data analytics, or a numerical/statistical language like Matlab or R is preferred. JOB RESPONSIBILIBITIES: GA(s) will provide research assistance to research and development projects and will be assigned to one or more research or development tasks. The following is a representative although not inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of GAs: • Perform independent research under the direction of faculty members • Engage in literature searches and reviews • Perform data analysis • Design and implement a software system and/or experiment • Assist in faculty members’ laboratory • Co-author the resulting research papers POTENTIAL RESEARCH TOPICS: We have two positions focusing on developing: 1. Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) related data management and digital libraries, see https://educopia.org/research/grants/etdplus Both topics may lead to Computer Science PhD dissertations or MS theses, advised by Professor Edward Fox (https://fox.cs.vt.edu/).
