The echo signal from the target is very weak and submerged in the background clutter and noise due to the transmit power limit and wall attenuation. The power of the echo signal can be enhanced by increasing pulse repetition frequency or transmitting a uniformly spaced pulse train. However, increase in pulse repetition frequency will cause a decrease in the unambiguous detection distance. In addition, if a uniformly spaced pulse train is transmitted, the energy will be concentrated at discrete harmonic frequencies within the total bandwidth, which will reduce the distance resolution of the radar. If the pulse trains are modulated by the random signal, the generated noise-like signal as the probe signal can solve the above mentioned problems.
