Quality Control of Amoxicillin Capsules
Abstract: Amoxicillin as a semi-synthetic penicillin with broad-spectrum has the characteristics of extremely low toxicity and strong bactericidal activity. It has apparent inhibitory activity towards susceptible Gram-positive cocci and bacilli through the inhibition of the synthesis of bacterial cell wall, which quickly become spherical body, then rupture and dissolute. It has been widely used in clinic. In recent years, however, there has been many reported cases of amoxicillin products with quality issues in the market. In this study we established a quality control system according to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2010 Edition by combining dissolution tests and ultraviolet visible spectrophotometry to determine the dissolution rate, and quantification by high-performance liquid phase chromatography on the content of the active ingredient. The results enable us to determine if the drug meets the quality standards.
