The objective of our work is to study the metallurgical characteristics of different rolling numbers or the rolling technology type of Pb-0.06wt% Ca-1.2wt% Sn anodes for copper electrowinning, and determine the relationship between the properties of anodes and rolling technologies or rolling numbers during copper electrowinning. The anode process was investigated via anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammetry curves, electrochemical impedance spectra and the corrosion rate. The composition and structure of the anodic layer were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The observable variations in the electrocatalytic activity and reaction kinetics of the anodes during electrolysis indicate that the electrochemical behavior of anodes is greatly affected by the rolling technologies. An increase in the rolling number resulted in a decreasing trend for the oxygen evolution overpotential and corrosion rate of anodes. This is contrary to the exchange current density of the electrode suface.
In addition, the intensity of the diffraction peaks (consist of PbO, PbOX and α-PbO2) mainly exhibited an increasing trend. The cross-rolled anode showed a more uniform microstructure, indicating recrystallization during the rolling process. |
