The strength of the as-sintered samples with Al2TiO5 is given for comparison. Fig. 3 shows scanning electron micrographs of fracture surfaces of as-sintered spinel samples with and without aluminum titanate. The grains of the Al2TiO5-containing ceramic were considerably larger. The increased grain growth during sintering can be attributed to the effect of TiO2, similar as in the case of alumina with small titania additions.10 |
