Through the mathematical derivation, we analysed the cause of emergence and reduction of inrush current, the regulation of reduction rate of inrush current and influence factors of inrush current reduction rate. Finally, we analyzed the change regulation and the reduction rate of inrush current of non-periodic component, and a new method to identify inrush current was put forward,in which the principle is simple and easy to implement in relay protection.  The rationality of the theory was proved by the application of MATLAB.
