AIMS AND SCOPE The world is facing a major dormant housing crisis. It will create economic, social and political changes. It is time to give a high priority to housing studies, planning and production in the development programs of every nation. The uncontrolled population increases, migration from rural to urban areas, and decay of existing housing units are the major reasons behind the urgent need for more and better housing. This is a universal trend which is affecting every community. The prediction of an United Nations study is that during the next thirty years, the world's population will increase by 3.5 billion. Assuming five persons per family, this growth in population will translate into 600 million new homes next thirty years, or twenty million per year. This is a difficult task to achieve. Housing science will be the base of all innovations needed to establish a successful approach to a permanent solution. The International Journal for Housing Science and Its Applications, with its multi and inter-disciplinary concepts, is dedicated to achieve the objective of providing better living environment through the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge SUBMISSION OF PAPERS FORMAT AND LAYOUT: These must conform accurately to the specifications given below. Because the papers are photographically reproduced from the original typescripts, this is an essential requirement. Papers cannot be retyped by the editorial staff. Those which fail to conform will be returned to the author for retyping, even if otherwise acceptable. Copies of the instructions for the preparation of the manuscripts, typing sheets and sample pages can be obtained from the Secretary, International Association for Housing Science, P.O. Box 340254, Coral Gables, Florida 33114, USA. Also, the manuscript format can be downloaded from housingscience.org official website. RAPID HANDLING PROCEDURE: All papers must be sent to Editor-in-chief, International Association for Housing Science, P.O. Box 340254, Coral Gables, Florida 33114, USA. Manuscripts accepted and communicated in this way will be published with a minimum of delay. ABSTRACT: Each paper should have an abstract of fifty to sixty words with related key words. CORRESPONDENCE FEATURE: Contributions submitted to the Editor-in-chief under this heading should be concerned with matters of opinion and criticism of interest to the scientific community in the field of Housing Science and Its Applications. They need to be prepared according to the same format and layout requirements as regular papers. PRINTERS'S PROOFS AND REPRINTS: For obvious reasons, proofs are not required and cannot be supplied. Reprint order forms will be sent to authors whose papers have been accepted for publication. LENGTH OF PAPERS: Authors are asked to limit the length of their papers to 12 pages including photographs, tables and diagrams. PUBLICATION LANGUAGE: English PREPARATION OF TEXT AND DIAGRAMS (1) Manuscripts should be typed on good quality white bond paper, measuring at least 8 x 10½ inches (21 x 27 cm). (2) It is imperative that a black typewriter ribbon be used; blue does not reproduce. IBM Selectric Typewriter, adjutant element is preferred; small and italic typefaces are unsuitable. Care should be taken to ensure a clean, clear impression of the letters. Avoid erasure marks, smudges, pencil or ink corrections and creases. (3) The typing area of page 1 must be 6 ½ x 8 ¼ inches (16.5 x21 cm); the typing area of all other pages must be 6 ½ x 9 ½ inches (16.5 x 24 cm). Each page should be completely filled with typing and/or diagrams. (4) The title should be all in CAPITAL LETTERS (except for mulae), centered on the width of page 1, and beginning 2 inches below the top edge of the paper. (5) Allow a 24pt space between the title and the names of the author(s). Follow immediately below, and on the same line, with their affiliation(s) after the names. Center each line. (6) Allow a 12pt space between author's affiliation and the Abstract. Type the word Abstract in italic, beginning at left hand margin. Then type Abstract itself in lower case lettering and single spacing, the whole passage being set in from the left hand margin by the length of the word " Abstract." (7) Allow a 24pt space between the keywords and the first major heading. Major headings, e.g. Introduction, Methods, Results, References, etc., should be typed in capitals and lower case letters, beginning at left hand margin and numbered. (8) Use single spacing in the text. Super-and/or subscripts should be neatly inserted by hand, if necessary, with smaller letters or numerals, in such a way that they will not interfere with the rest of the text. Use black ink. 1 ½ spaces between paragraphs ( ½ cm). (9) Tables should be typed as part of the text, but in such a way as to avoid confusion with text. Word Table 1 should be like this and centered with the table number above the table. The heading should have the first letters of all main words in capitals. Authors should use discretion to ensure that a single table does not overlap onto the next page, All tables should have headings. (10) Any material that cannot be typed, such as symbols and formula, should be inked carefully in black. (11) Line diagrams should be supplied, preferably in the form of glossy prints, at least of the size in which they are intended to appear in the journal. They should NOT be pasted in but appropriate space for each figure should be left above the descriptive caption. The figure number and author's name should be clearly indicated on the reverse side of each illustration. Care should be taken to ensure that the caption does not become confused with the text. The abbreviation Fig. 1 should be capitalized and with the figure number, centered above the caption. The caption itself should be in single space typing. Allow 10pt between end of caption and text which follows. Line drawings supplied may be larger than their intended final size in the journal, provided the line thicknesses are sufficient to permit the required degree of reduction. (12) Half-tone pictures should be supplied in duplicate as glossy prints in the actual size (or slightly larger) in which they are to appear in the journal. Handle captions as under (11). (13) Do not type the page numbers, but number each sheet lightly near the bottom with a blue pencil. (14) Footnotes should be typed single spaced 3 spaces below text at the bottom of the appropriate page and separated from the text by a short line. They should be wholly within the allowed typing space. (15) References should be indicated in the text by consecutive numbers in parentheses, thus (1,2) typed on the same line as the text, the full source information being cited in a numbered list at the end of the text in single spacing. Leave 1 blank line between references. References should contain the names of all the authors of any one paper together with their initials, the title of the journal (abbreviated if possible in accordance with the World List of Scientific Periodicals), volume number, first page number and year, as illustrated below. References to books should contain the publishers name and location. 1. Ural, O., (May 1971) Operation Breakthrough: An Engineering Evaluation, Building Practice, Bombay, India 2. Fareed, A. (1975) Housing Problems and Construction in Egypt, International Conference on Urban Housing and Transportation Proceedings, p. 340, Detroit, Michigan (16) Use only standard symbols and abbreviations in text and illustrations. (17) Manuscripts and diagrams should NOT BE FOLDED. FONT: Times New Roman 12 pt DISK COPY: Manuscript must accompany a computer disk copy. |
