Surface Wettability of Unmodified and Modified PHBV Films. The surface wettability of different PHBV films was investigated through a water contact angle method. The contact angle of the PHBV film was found to be 72 ( 1. After NH3 plasma treatment, the contact angle decreased to 36 ( 4 because of the increasing polarity and roughness of the surface caused by the introduction of hydrophilic groups.21,22 However, it was reported that within the first 3 h after treatment, the contact angle increased significantly. After 1 day of storage in air, the contact angle of theNH3 plasma-treated PHBV films reached a value similar to that of an unmodified surface. The effect of wettability reversal is likely due to chain relaxation processes and postreaction with the storage environment. |
