Bithiophenes, especially head-to-tail dimers, are useful precursors for high quality, well-defined, regioregular, oligo- and polythiophenes and their derivatives. Kita developed a useful synthetic method for the regioselective homocoupling of thiophenes (Scheme 8.14). Switching the reactive position on thiophene by employing PhI(OH)OTs, they achieved the synthesis of the head-to-tail dimer 42 with a variety of 3,3-dialkyl- or 3,3-dialkoxy substituents |
