PhD stipends available in the CATCO group
|
|
The Computation and Theoretical Chemistry Group (CATCO) offers a state-of-the-art education and training in computational and theoretical chemistry, please refer to the CATCO page https://sites.smu.edu/dedman/catco/graduate-program.html. PhD stipends available in the CATCO group Our graduate student classes are small offering an intensive interaction between student and professor. Students get ample opportunities for representing their research results during SMU workshops and national conferences. CATCO¡¯s research topics reach from the design and programming of quantum chemistry programs in electron correlation theory, relativistic theory or reaction valley studies to chemical bond studies with local vibrational modes and state-of-the-art drug design studies using SMU¡¯s new high-performance-computing facility. CATCO students get training with a dozen modern quantum chemical program packages as well as the CATCO program COLOGNE. Our PhD students finish their studies within 4-5 years typically with more than 6 research papers. After that they are highly compatible on the job market regarding both industry and academia. The most recent PhD student defended his thesis with 11 peer-refereed research papers and will enlarge the number of CATCO PhD students (so far 19 in 7 different countries) who started a university career and are now working as Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor. We accept students with a BS in Science in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering. A Master of Science is not required, but might be useful. PhD students will receive a competitive stipend ($25,000 annually); all tuition fees (ca $40,000 annually) will be waived. With this amount our students get along very well, given the fact that in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex living expenses are relatively low. There is very nice and affordable housing close to SMU with a complementary bus service for students without a car. Please contact Professor Dieter Cremer (dcremer@smu.edu) or Professor Elfi Kraka (ekraka@smu.edu) for further information and/or if you want to apply.
