The introduction of PEG segments to PHBV films can render the surface hydrophilic and significantly decrease the nonspecific adsorption of proteins from serum and fibrinogen from plasma, thus decreasing the risk of thrombus formation and improving the blood compatibility of implanted materials. This modification approach may also be applied to modify implantable materials that have no active reaction sites on the surface with active biomolecules that contain thiol groups. |
