Welcome to XAFS: a friendly but not so short tutorial 1. Introduction P. Fornasini Department of Physics, University of Trento, Italy - January 2014 The advent of Synchrotron Radiation sources has led to an impressive progress in all X-ray tech- niques. The fine structures at the X-ray absorption coefficient (XAFS) were known since 1918; however, only in the seventies, thanks to the availability of synchrotron sources and to the develop- ment of a suitable interpretation scheme [6], become it possible to exploit them to get quantitative information on both the local geometric and electronic structure of matter. |
