In this work, we took Gd3+ ions as the sensor (or sensitizer), silicate oxyfluoride scintillating glass with various Tb3+ content were prepared by high temperature melt quenching method. The luminescent properties of Tb3+ and energy transfer from Gd3+ to Tb3+ in glass matrix were investigated using transmittance, photoluminescence and fluorescence decay spectroscopies. The results clearly indicate that as the concentration of Tb3+ increases the intensities of luminescence peaks originated from Tb3+ increase, and the maximal was reached with the Tb3+ content of 6 mol%. Furthermore, when the content of Tb3+ exceeds 5 mol%, the efficiency of energy transfer from Gd3+ to Tb3+ approached nearly 100% . The results of our investigation suggest an effective way to improve the optical properties of Tb3+-doped scintillating glasses, which could shed light on prompting its practical application in future. |
