The University of Stavanger invites applications for a doctorate scholarship in enhanced oil recovery at Department of Petroleum Engineering.
This is a trainee position that will mainly give promising researchers an opportunity for professional development leading to a doctoral degree.
The research fellow will be appointed for three years. The position is vacant from September 1, 2015. The appointee can accede when he/she is admitted to the PhD program in petroleum engineering with an agreement to complete the doctorate within the duration of the scholarship.

Project title : Carbonated nanofluids for enhanced oil recovery.

The position is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Education.

Applicants should have a strong academic background with a recent Master degree in a program of study that is equivalent or similar to that of the University of Stavanger, or possess corresponding qualifications that could provide a basis for successfully completing a doctorate within this project.
A standing of B in the bachelor and master's studies is considered a minimum requirement. The ideal candidate for the position should have background in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, nanoscience, or other relevant qualifications. Previous experiences in enhanced oil recovery research and numerical modelling will be considered as an extra advantage for the position.
By rating it will be placed on the applicant’s potential for research in the field, as well as that person’s individual prerequisites for research education.
The appointee must be able to work independently and as a member of a team, be creative and innovative.
The research fellow must have a good command of both oral and written English.
This fellowship position is important for obtaining a scientific position at a University.
The doctorate will mainly be carried out at the University of Stavanger, apart from a period of study abroad at a recognized and relevant centre of research.
The research fellow is salaried according to the State Salary Code, l.pl 17.515, code 1017, LR 20, ltr. 50, of NOK 429 700 per annum.
The position provides for automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which guarantees favourable retirement benefits. Members may also apply for home investment loans at favourable interest rates.

Project description
EOR by CO2 has been very much addressed in literature for its efficiency. Many researchers have also investigated CO2 sequestration. CO2 has showed its potential for incremental oil recovery. However, due to lack sufficient CO2 to be injected, carbonated water (CW) may offer an alternative solution to the required amount of CO2 to be injected. Combining a specifically designed nanofluid with carbonated water may have a synergistic effect for EOR. The project offers several challenges, factors affecting the anticipated theoretical synergism by combining CW and nanofluid, EOR mechanism(s) at pore scale level.
