How to count filamentous bacteria?
|
|
Dear all, I am a newbie to microbiology and here I have a question. I appreciate any help that you can provide. ====================================== How can we count the cell number of filamentous bacteria (e.g., Nocardia spp. )? Will normal plate count method do? You know, these specific bacteria tend to grow together and form long chains (and that is why they are called filamentous bacteria). I am worrying that they might not be "broken" down to individual bacterial particles via vortexing (during the serious dilution process). In other words, one "single colony" on Agar plate might not be developed originally from one, single, and individual bacterium. Would that be a problem? Or, what is the method people use for count these bacteria? ====================================== Thanks a lot! Yours, Xinqing |
