这篇完形填空并不难。首先，做完形填空要从整体上去把握，换句话说，你要清楚语篇的话题和语篇的主要内容。这篇文章的topic是education，但是这篇文章讲的并不是怎样进行教育，而讲的是----教育是一种方式或手段。即这篇文章是常见的ＡｂｕｔＢ 结构，即由A引出B，因此，这篇文章的话题是A means（education） is to the end.在此你要通过下文的解释来理解end的意义。End在此的意思是aim，也就是下面的同一倾向性用词purpose的同义词。理解到此，你就知道这篇文章真正所谈的话题了，即教育不是目的，而是达成目的的一种手段。接着，我们来看看作者是怎样来谈purpose的，purpose is to fit them for life.为什么用to fit them ,这要从动词不定式的功能去考虑。在英语里，动词不定式通常表示具体含义。即to fit them for life 是purpose的具体含义。这里再给你举几个例子：My task is to sell the goods. His job is to teach the children. Your purpose is to understand how to solve this cloze article. 好，继续往下看，life is varied，so is education. 此时话题已转换到life,然后又回到education.这句话的意思是，生活是多样化的，教育（手段）也应一样是多样化的。这里用so是因为so在倒装句里是一种常见的表达，译为……也一样。最后，作者用抽象概括信息的方式来确立自己的假设，并形成自己的观点，用来引导下文。即作者自己确立的假设是---教育是一种手段---这种手段是用来教孩子们去适应生活的。然后作者运用思维概括形成自己的观点----重要的是选择怎样的教育体系（手段上升为体系）来达到这个目的。下面从三个角度去考虑：Education system(country), children(people), to fit for life (job).理解到此，你就可以理解整篇文章了。 Structure： Who situation complication solution(to fit for life) children Country education system life people advanced industries country free job people university university degree work Suggested answers: 1.A表具体含义 2.B表倒装 3.B 4 C 让步状语从句5. In some modern countries it has for some time been fashionable to think that hy free education for all- whether rich or poor, clever or stupid-one can solve all the problems of society and build a perfect nation. But we can already see that free education for all is not enough; we find in such countries a far larger number of people with university degrees refuse to do what they think to be "low" work, and, in fact, work with hands is thought to be dirty and shameful in such countries. But we have only to think a moment to understand that the work of a completely uneducated farmer is far more important than that of a professor. We can live without education, but we die if we have no food. If no one cleaned our streets and took the rubbish away from our houses, we should get terrible diseases in our towns. In fact, when we say that all of us must be educated to fit us for life, it means that we must be educated in such a way that, firstly, each of us can do whatever work suited to his brains and ability and, secondly, that we can realize that all jobs are necessary to society, and that is very bad to be ashamed of one's work. Only such a type of education can be considered valuable to society. |
