A Modal Analysis of a Two-Area System with Significant Wind Power Penetration

•Abstract - This paper presents the results of an investigation aimed at ascertaining the effect that a sizeable wind farm exerts on the oscillation modes of a two-area, four-generator power system. The modal characteristics of the system, when a wind farm replaces one of the generators, are analyzed.
Index Terms - Wind turbine generator, wind farm, windpower, small signal stability, inter-area mode, local mode.

The results presented in this paper show that for the conditions considered, the WTG does not degrade the twoarea system modal characteristics. The results obtained also show that the inherent characteristics of the WTG lead to the absence of the speed and angle states from the mode shapes associated with the inter-area and local modes.
The WTG model used in this investigation is expected to give realistic and correct results when used for bulk system performance studies. Given the rapidly changing nature of this field of modeling and analysis, it is expected that the model components will continue to evolve, in terms of parameter values and structure, as experience and additional test data are obtained.

两区系统与重大风电穿透模态分析
