GRE issue NO1: The preceived greatness of any political leader
|

This is a GRE issue, and my answer attached, I am looking forward your commentary~ Directions: You will be given a statement that presents an issue you need to respond to, along with detailed instructions on how to respond to the statement. You have 30 minutes to plan and compose a response in which you develop an argument according to the instructions. A response to any other issue results in a score of zero. “The preceived greatness of any political leader has more to do with the challenges faced by that leader than with any of his or her inherent skills and abilities.” Write a response in which you examine your own position on the statement. Explore the extent to which you either agree or disagree with it, and support your reasoning with evidence and/or examples. Be sure to reflect on ways in which the statement might or might not be true, and how this informs your thinking on the subject. How to define a political leader as an awesome and outstanding figure is largely depends on his or her inherent characteristics and personality as well as abilities to deal with daily matters instead of facing with less frequent happenings such as challenges. Because challenges are indeed very rare and one calls more for the leader to be sympathic, kind, patient and forseeing. It is commonly believed that greatness comes out of extreme catastrophe and diseaster for one organization, and at that time, subordinates always turn their eyes toward their leader to rely on his or her insightful and powerful solution to the challenges they met. However, that is not what greatness means, since most of the leaders, on the other hand, might not even met any challenges during her position period. Then the challenges test might absent for him and leaves no chance for others to determine whether he is a perfect leader or not. Then, we could easily examine his or her ability and inherent characteristics by ordinary working process instead which is what is happening every second. Leaders are not born to be dealers with challenges and adversities but to coordiante his group or team and LEAD their subordinates to march together. It could be emergency sometimes but it is more overwhelming for them to unite the team and get along with everyone perfectly well to avoid unnecessary competition and disconnection which need their personalities such as sympathy, patient and comprehensive. For example, reputation of leaders are founded by their close connection with members within his group. He needs to be fair with punishing and rewarding everyone without partial with someone he admires or dislikes. And he also needs to be solictious with his subordiates by frequently asking what they need, how they are going, what they could offer to help to improve his working. The leader should often show his support for everyone and thereby extablish his prestige that the guider is really thinking for the stuff and is supportive and warm-hearted. So as soon as a group is founded in this way, even if faced with challenges, every member will unite together to overcome it without overpersuading by the leaders. Greatness, like many other qualities, is not emerge suddenly but accumulate little by little, Challenges might be a tester for a great leader, but it is not a better one than ordinary matters such as planning a schedule, destribute resourses, resolve members’ quarrels and so on. In a word greatness shows its charming in minors. |
