| Surface states in the band gaps of free-electronlike s, p bands are common to many surfaces.Predicted already in 1939 by Shockley,such states have been observed in photoemission from a wide class of metal surfaces. A very special case arises when such states are located in a gap which contains the vacuum level. 有一特殊的例子就是當這個 surface state 落在 gap 裡且同時 vacuum sate 也在 gap 裡 vacuum state 在不同表面系統下 其出現在的位置也會不同 可能會在 CBM 上 (positive electron affinity) 也可能會在 VBM 下 (negative electron affinity) 當然，也是有可能出現在 gap 裡 參考資料 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electron_affinity |
