研究发现在人类皮肤的角质层中存在着天然保湿因子(NMF),而这种因子中含有的氨基酸与丝胶的组成极其相似。 因此,丝胶对皮肤具有良好的保湿性能和润肤功效。进一步的研究还发现丝胶除了保湿作用之外,还具有如下的功能:抗氧化活性、抑制络氨酸酶从而抑制黑色素形成、激活肌肤细胞,促进该细胞的再生、抗肿瘤、抗衰老、促进肠胃消化以及护肤、美容。日本已有以丝胶为主要添加剂的化妆品在市场上问世,比如润肤霜、洁面乳、洗面奶、沐浴露、洗发香波、护发素等(盛家镛 et al.,2000)。 丝胶含有的18种氨基酸中,90%以上能被人体吸收,含有人体所必需的氨基酸达17 %以上,高于一般食品。因此,丝胶蛋白可以作为一种很好的食品添加剂。由于丝胶能抑制多酚氧化酶的活性,在食品中加入丝胶蛋白,可以起抗氧化剂的作用。丝胶还能促进肠道对锌、铁、镁、钙元素的吸收(Sasaki M et al.,2000)。
    近年来,树状高分子的功能化与应用引起大家的关注。尤其是树状高分子封装金属纳米粒子的制备,但是它在传感器中的应用却报道不多。Bustos E B等(Bustos E B et al., 2007)制备了羟基末端的5代树状大分子分别封装金属Ir, Pt 和Rh的纳米粒子,然后把这些颗粒固定在玻碳电极表面,用作多巴胺(DA)在高效液相色谱分析中的电流计检测器,并与紫外可见检测器相比较,检测限明显降低。Frank N C等(Frank N C et al.,2006)首先制备了聚酰胺-胺树状高分子封装金纳米粒子,铁氰化钴也可以进入到树状大分子的内部得到聚酰胺-胺树状高分子封装金和铁氰化钴纳米颗粒,以氧化铟锡为基底电极,利用层层膜自组装法制备了聚乙烯酸/聚酰胺-胺树状高分子封装金和铁氰化钴纳米粒子交替膜修饰电极,在交联剂戊二醛的作用下将葡萄糖氧化酶和牛血清蛋白固定在修饰电极表面,并成功地实现了对葡萄糖的测定。

     Research results indicated that natural moisturizing factors (NMF) were present in the stratum corneum of human skin, and NMF contain amino acids which are quite similar to the components of sericin. Therefore, sericin has good moisture-keeping property and skin moistening performance. Further study showed that sericin had the following functions except moisture keeping property: antioxidant,  inhibiting tyrosine kinase thus inhibiting formation of melanin, activating skin cells, stimulating their regeneration, antitumor, anti-ageing, promoting gastro-intestinal digestion as well as skin care and beauty. Cosmetics using sericin as additives have been on the market in Japan, which include body moisturizer, face cleanser, face milk,  body wash, hair shampoo, hair care cream, etc.  More than 90% of the 18 amino acids in sericin can be absorbed, and over 17% of the amino acids are necessary for humans, which is higher than common foods. So, sericin can be used as good food additives. Sericin may function as antioxidants  in foodstuffs because it inhibits the activity of polyphenol oxidase. Also, sericin promotes the absorption of zinc, iron, magnesium, calcium.

    In recent years, functionalization and application of dendrimers has been concerned, especially the preparation of metal nano-particles contained in dendrimers. However, its application in sensors is seldom reported. Bustos E B et al. has prepared hydroxy terminated G5 dendrimer in which Ir, Pt and Rh nano-particles were packed respectively, then, these particles were immobilized in glassy-carbon electrode surface and used as current detector in HPLC. The detection limit of this detector decreased apparently commpared with that of UV-Vis detector. Frank N C et al. has prepared PAMM dendrimer containing gold nano-particle for the first time, and cobalt iron cyanide can also be packed in dendrimers to obtain  PAMM dendrimer containing gold and  cobalt iron cyanide nano-particles. The consecutive membrane modified electrode of polyviny acid/PAMM dendrimers containing gold and  cobalt iron cyanide nano-particles was prepared via LLB self-assembly by using indium tin oxide as matrix electrode. Glucose oxidase and bovine serum albumin(BSA) were immobilized in modified electrode with the aid of glutaraldehyde linker, and the determination of glucose was implemented successfully.
