Synthesis of 2-[N-(a-picolyl)amino]-benzophenone (1) Thionyl chloride (3.5 mL, 50 mmol) was added dropwise to a stirred solution of picolinic acid (6.2 g, 50 mmol) and Et3N (10.4 mL, 75 mmol) in CH2Cl2(35 mL) at 0C. The mixture was stirred for 20 min, and then a solution of o-aminobenzophenone (9.9 g, 50 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (20 mL) was added at 0C. Stirring was continued for another 2 h at room temperature, and the reaction mixture was left standing overnight.  9.jpg |
