| The magnetic susceptibility of compound 5 versus temperature is shown in Figure 8, the ¦ÖMT value at 300K is 13.59 cm3 mol-1 K, it is close to the value expected for three Mn(II) (S = 5/2) noninteracting ions (13.125 cm3 mol-1 K, g = 2). This is corroborated by the continuous decrease of ¦ÖMT upon cooling down to 11.96 cm3 mol-1 K at 80K. Below that temperature, the decrease is more abrupt, with ¦ÖMT reaching a value of 4.47 cm3 mol-1 K at 2K, which is close to the spin - only (g = 2) value of 4.375 cm3 mol-1 K for a spin ground state S = 5/2. Additionally, a decrease in the low temperature ¦ÖMT (T) data could also arise from zero-field splitting of the 6A1g ground state imposed by a distortion of the Mn2+ octahedron. The magnetic susceptibility above 10 K obeys the Curie-Weiss law with the Weiss constant, ¦È = -12.19 K, and Curie constant, C = 14.03 cm3 mol-1 K per Mn3 unit. The negative weiss constants indicate weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the Mn(II) centers. |
