The assessment of in vitro bioactivity was carried out by soaking the discs, vertically held over platinum holders, in 50ml of SBF [17] at 371C and in sterilepolyethylene containers. The SBF was previously filtered with a Millipore 0.23 mm system and alloperations were carried out under a laminar flux hood (Telstar AV-100), avoiding bacterial contamination.The Ca2+ concentration and pH changes produced in the SBF solution were determined with an Ilyte Na+,K+, Ca2+, pH system. Biphasic material surfaces were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanningelectron microscopy (SEM) coupled to dispersive energies spectroscopy (EDS). XRD patterns wereobtained with a Philips X’Pert diffractometer (C.A.I. XRD, UCM) using Ka Cu radiation. The SEM–EDSstudies were carried out in a JEOL 6400-LINK AN 10000 scanning electron microscope. |
