| First, after the aggregation, only the molecules on the surface of the nanoparticles emitted light and contributed to the fluorescence intensity upon excitation, leading to a decrease in fluorescence intensity. However, the restriction of intramolecular rotations of the aromatic rings around the carbon-carbon single bonds in the aggregation state could enhance light emission. The net outcome of these antagonistic processes depends on which process plays a predominant role in affecting the fluorescence behavior of the aggregated molecules. |
