Highly electron-rich triarylamines, which are known to have high hole mobility, have been widely used as hole-transporting materials in multilayer organic electro-luminescence devices.5 However, triphenylamine (TPA) derivatives have the tendency to crystallize upon exposure to heat resulting in aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching of fluorophores, and often possess low glass transition temperatures (Tg)(i.e., poor morphological stability), resulting in low reliability when used in optoelectronic devices. Aggregation quenching and lowTg are the major reasons for the rare use of TPA derivatives for layer emission in electroluminescent device applications.
