3.1 pathological changes in spinal dorsal horn Nuclear chromatin condensation or fragmentation, cell shrinkage, apoptotic bodies even cell necrosis were observed in the spinal dorsal horn of groupC rats . The pathological changes in group P rats was simlar to that in groupC, but whose extent were less than that of group C. And there were not obvious pathological changes in group S. We did not observe the significant difference on the 1st, 4th, 7th days postoperative in each group.(Fig5) 3.2 Behavioral signs of spontaneous pain None of the rats showed SFL of the contralateral hindfoot. And none of the rats expressed SFL behavior of the ipsilateral hindfoot in group S too. Only one rat occurred SFL behavior of the ipsilateral hindfoot on the 1st postoperativeday in group C. However two rats on the1st postoperative day and all rats on the 4th ,7th days postoperative displayed SFLbehavior of the ipsilateral hindfoot in groupC. (Fig 8) The ratios of rats expressing SFL behavior in group C were hgher than that in group P or group S (p<0.001 respectively). And the ratios were no difference between groupP and groupS(p=0.50,two-tail). The cumulative duration of SFL in groupC rats, increase to the peak at the 4th postoperative days from the 1st postoperative day, and sustained at this high level till the 7th postoperative day.
