PhD studentship openings on Responsive materials/ Micro-engineering/Smart device Smart Materials Group (Dr Ben Xu and Dr Yifan Li) in Mechanical Engineering Department of Northumbria University at Newcastle, England (http://computing.unn.ac.uk/smsgroup/) has 2 fully funded PhD studentship openings (expected starting at July - Oct 2015) for highly motivated candidates with research skills/experiences from the following areas: 1. Stimuli-responsive materials and structure, Polymer chemistry/physics background, surface treatment, self-assembly and plastic/elastomer engineering. 2. Soft-lithography, MEMS/NEMS experiences (Cleanroom techniques), device packaging and integration, micro-fluidic system, sensor and actuator applications. 3. Micro-fabrication/micro-engineering of polymer thin film,electro-spinning, Bio-medical device experience. Candidates with multi-disciplines research experiences are highly desired but not essential. The research doctoral training in UK high education system normally will be completed in 3-4 years, whenever meet the requirement from university and school. Enthusiastic researchers are welcomed to join our group anytime as we have positions for self-funded candidates all year around (exchange scholars/students and PhD). Degree/GPA/English level: For the enrollment qualification, candidates should hold Master degree or expected to get the MSc degree before the enrollment, IELTS>=6.5(or equivalent IBT scores), overall GPA above 80/100, Journal paper(s) publication experience with proofs (desired but not essential). Studentship details:The studentship will cover your tuition fee PLUS 800-1100 GBP monthly living stipend. About Living Costs in Newcastle upon tyne: The cost of living in Newcastle is one of the lowest in UK. The amount you will need depends on your lifestyle, but we estimate that the minimum amount required by a single student for covering basic living expenses (e.g. shared accommodation with bills, food,etc) is ~ ￡600 per month [ Last edited by xubinice on 2014-10-24 at 18:28 ] |
