Once a decision has been made on an article, the Corresponding Author will be notified. If the article is accepted, it will be entered into our Production Tracking System and you will receive an acknowledgement letter containing the article’s unique production reference number (Our Reference), accompanied by an offprint order form, a Journal Publishing Agreement (copyright agreement form), a Research Sponsorship and Funding form, and a colour figure reproduction form.

Each accepted article that arrives at Elsevier is registered in our Production Tracking System and its status is available for you to check within 24 hours. Each step in the production process is then automatically updated in the article tracking service. Due to various factors (journal publication dates, etc.), there are no set frequencies at which your article's status will be updated. Please be assured that status information is updated as soon as any changes are known.

The production reference number along with the Corresponding Author's surname can be used to track the status of the article via the Track Your Accepted Article service.

On this page you will see a section where you can enter your article's production reference number (Our Reference) and the Corresponding Author’s surname.

Authors can also register, creating a personal homepage (My Home).

Article status changes are shown in summary in the ‘Accepted/Published’ articles section, and in detail on the ‘Article Status’ page.

To display the ‘Article Status’ page:

1. On your personal homepage, in the ‘Accepted/Published’ articles section, find the relevant article.
2. In the ‘Status’ field, click ‘more’.

Once your article is published in the relevant journal, you can move it into the ‘Archive’ section of your personal homepage.

You can also set up e-mail alerts for automatic notification of key milestones as your article progresses through the publication process.

Please Note: The production reference number is different to the Elsevier Editorial System (EES) manuscript number for your article. Please also note that the Track Your Accepted Article service is only able to track the status of articles that have been accepted for publication.

Authors with accepted articles in production at Elsevier have access to the following tracking information:

General production status (that is: in preparation, in proof, issued).
Date of publication and offprints dispatch date.
Citation (issue, volume and page numbers) and DOI information.
Link to the ‘Article in Press’ version of the article when it is available online.
Link to the final published article when it is available online

Please Note: This tracking information only shows details about articles that have been accepted for publication and transferred to our Production Tracking System for typesetting. If your article is still under review and has not yet been accepted for publication, it will not have been transferred to the Production Tracking System and you should contact the journal's Editorial Office directly for an update on the status of your article. See the relevant journal's Guide for Authors for details.
