| Nevertheless, FCn are still AIE-active molecules and exhibit strong solid-state fluorescence. This is probably due to the highly distorted 9,10-distyryl moieties caused by the strongly steric hindrance of the 1,8-positions of the anthracene core, even after stacking, disturb the intermolecular close packing, to diminish the intermolecular quenching effects. In addition, it is noted that the fluorescence emission of the pristine FCn solids depends on the N-alkyl length (left column in Fig. 2 andTable 1). Alkyl chain length-dependent solid-state fluorescence emission is an interesting phenomenon and has been reported in other organic fluorophores. However, there are few reports on the cruciform fluorophores exhibiting chain length-dependent solid-state fluorescence, which will be further investigated elsewhere. |
