The addition of magnesia may cause the formation of spinel and CA6, which accompanied by volume expansion during the use of ladle, so that it is essential to control the expansion. Otherwise, difference in expansion between the hot face and interface may lead to spalling like the ASM (B), decreasing life time of steel ladle. One of effective methods to control expansion is addition of microsilica. Nonetheless, it is important to find optimal and proper content microsilica in castables according to the operational condition because the addition of microsilica may accelerate spinel formation as well as sintering shrinkage. |
