High quality re-bonded bricks, based on fused magnesia chromite, have been used in snorkel and lower vessel to provide good thermal shock resistance and high erosion and corrosion resistance1. Three different grades of magnesia chromite bricks have been tested for hot strength and creep resistance (see Table I). All products are based on fused magnesia chromite, high purity sintered magnesia and chrome ore, and the final products are fired in a similar condition, i.e. at or above 1700°C. An induction furnace test has been carried for their corrosion resistance and steel erosion resistance. The test was carried out with ULC steel and iron oxide rich slag (chemistry: 11% CaO, 15% Al2O3, 8% MgO and 65% Fe2O3) at approx. 1700°C for 4h, as shown in Fig.4. |
