X-ray diffraction of different samples of ironaluminium oxide pigments The d-values and the relative intensities I/Io of X-ray pattern for of the pigments prepared are shown in Figure 3. Data showed that, the calcinations of the three mixtures, 3Al2O3: Fe2O3, 1Al2O3: 1Fe2O3, and 1Al2O3: 3Fe2O3, resulted in one solid solution in each case without the appearance of crystalline phase beside it. This indicated that the mixing of any proportion of the components easily formed solid solution. The d-values of the solid solutions formed were located between the d-values of a-Al2O3 and a-Fe2O3. The colour of the solid solution formed depends on its composition. The solid solution became deep brownish red when its iron content was higher, while it became light brown when excess alumina existed in the mixture.  aszx.png  zxas.png |
