Post-doctoral researcher on LED phosphors (16-09-2014) Research scope While luminescent materials are well known from traditional applications (like fluorescent lamps, television tubes and X-ray screens), during recent years they are becoming more and more important for novel applications in the field of sustainable energy technologies, like energy-saving LED lighting, solar cells and sun-light activated afterglow phosphors. In the group ¡°Luminescent materials¡± of the section ¡°Fundamental Aspects of Materials and Energy¡± at Delft University of Technology basic research is conducted with the intention to design novel materials with improved or unconventional properties for industrial applications. Job description The objective is to design a novel phosphor material with special properties for a specific LED application. The post-doc researcher will investigate the relationship between the composition and structure on the one hand and the luminescence properties of the designed materials on the other hand. He will guide the design process by interpretation of the observed composition-structure-property relationships with optical models developed in the group. Potential suitable phosphors will be systematically searched for by combinatorial synthesis approach with help of industry and selected promising phosphors will be evaluated by LED testing in collaboration with industry. Job requirements - Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Solid State Physics or Chemistry - Experience with sophisticated spectroscopic equipment and modern characterization techniques - Background in modeling of optical materials properties - Ability to convert fundamental understanding into practical knowledge - Good communication and writing skills, fluency in English More information Dr. H.T.
