[交流] 征集Special Issue: Environmental Applications and Implications of Nanotechnology

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering (FESE)
Call for contributions to the special issue:

Environmental Applications and Implications of Nanotechnology

Background, Objectives and Scope

Environmental nanotechnology has shown great potential to fundamentally change the conventional practices in environmental cleanup. While the development of innovative cleanup technologies continues to evolve, our understanding of the environmental implications/impacts associated with the booming applications of nanotechnology in various fields has also come a long way. The objectives of this special issue are to: 1) promote exchanges of ideas and information on the latest development of environmental nanotechnology, 2) facilitate development of more cost-effective and “greener” cleanup technologies based on innovative nanomaterials and nanotechnology, 3) address limitation and potential environmental impacts of nanotechnology and nanomaterials, and 4) identify major knowledge gaps and research directions.

Authors are invited to submit original research and critical review papers. While this special issue strives to include various aspects on applications and implications, greater emphasis is placed on applications in soil and groundwater remediation, water and wastewater treatment, environmental impacts and fate and transport of important nanomaterials. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

1)        Application of nanotechnology for soil and groundwater remediation
•        Development, characterization and application of novel nanoparticles for in situ remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, such as in situ immobilization of heavy metals, degradation or immobilization of persistent and emerging contaminants in soil and groundwater
•        Application of nanomaterials for treating solid and hazardous wastes
•        Improving soil deliverability and reactivity of nanoparticles for in situ soil and groundwater remediation
•        Nanoparticle-facilitated mobilization and immobilization of subsurface contaminants

2)        Application of nanotechnologies for water and wastewater treatment and reuse
•        Reactive nanoparticles for degradation/transformation of recalcitrant contaminants
•        Nanoadsorbents for enhanced removal of trace contaminants
•        Nanotechnology for improved membrane processes and desalination technologies
•        Nanocatalysts for degradation of chemical contaminants
•        Nanotechnology for disinfection and microbial control
•        Nanosensors for detection of chemical and microbial contaminants in water and soil

3)        Environmental fate, transport and impacts of nanomaterials in water and soil
•        Occurrence of engineered nanomaterials in water, wastewater, soil and groundwater
•        Fate and transport of engineered nanomaterials in water/wastewater treatment and groundwater/soil systems
•        Impacts of engineered nanoparticles on the biological and/or chemical conditions in water/wastewater treatment systems
•        Impacts of engineered nanoparticles on the subsurface biogeochemistry and related implications on the long-term stability of subsurface contaminants
•        Interactions between engineered nanomaterials with biota and microbial communities

About the Journal and Submission Procedure

Published by Springer, FESE is a fast-growing journal published both in print and online. Though quite young, the journal obtained an Impact Factor of 0.881 in 2013, and the momentum remains strong. More information on the journal is available at http://www.springer.com/environm ... 3?detailsPage=press or http://journal.hep.com.cn/fese

This Special Issue is promoted by the State Key Joint Laboratory of Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control at Tsinghua University, China. Manuscripts will be reviewed with the same rigor as for other submissions to FESE. Please submit your manuscripts through the FESE online submission system at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/fese and select the “Special Issue-Nanotechnology” as the “Manuscript Type”. The editors will strive to complete the review process within two months upon receipt of the submissions for rapid publication.
