#1 Postdoctoral Positions Available: Molecular Simulation of Complex Fluids and Phase & Sorption Equilibria We are seeking two outstanding postdoctoral researchers to work on collaborative research projects: One project will focus on Advanced PVT-Properties and Molecular Modeling of Complex Fluids in Support of Safe and Green Hydrocarbon Production, and the postdoctoral researcher will be mentored by Ilja Siepmann at the University of Minnesota and Cornelis Peters at The Petroleum Institute Abu Dhabi. The postdoctoral researcher will be based at the University of Minnesota, but the collaborative research will also involve extended visits to The Petroleum Institute where, if desired, there may be the opportunity to be involved in teaching and other educational opportunities. The other project will focus on Predictive Modeling of Phase and Sorption Equilibria (including the development of algorithms and force fields) in the Siepmann research group. This position may involve collaboration with other researchers of the Nanoporous Materials Genome Center, the Catalysis Center for Energy Innovation, the University of Minnesota MRSEC, Procter & Gamble, and Dow. The ideal candidate must have • a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with an emphasis on predictive molecular simulation • excellent programming skills and expertise in complex software development; experience with advanced Monte Carlo sampling approaches is desirable • good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in diverse environments These positions are available immediately for an initial period of one year that can be extended for subsequent years based on progress and mutual agreement. Well-qualified applicants are encouraged to contact Ilja Siepmann (siepmann@umn.edu) with a brief cover letter indicating whether they are interested in both or only one of these positions, and include a CV, unofficial copies of graduate transcripts, and the names of at least two references. #2 Dear XXX, We are writing regarding the availability of one or more open postdoc positions within the Schmidt and Yethiraj groups at UW-Madison. A number of project areas are available (detailed below), depending on applicant interest and qualifications. Collaborative or joint appointment between our research groups will also be considered. Project areas include: 1) Ionic liquids 2) Polymers and surfactants 3) Acid gas induced evolution of energy materials, including their impact on nano-porous metal-organic frameworks (in association with a recent Department of Energy Energy Frontier Research Center). Please ask any interested members of your group to contact us by email. Sincerely, JR Schmidt (schmidt@chem.wisc.edu) Arun Yethiraj (yethiraj@chem.wisc.edu) Department of Chemistry UW-Madison #3 Dear Colleagues/Friends, see below an announcement of a postdoctoral position in our group at Queen's University Belfast. It would be much appreciated if you could pass it onto potential candidates. Deadline for applications is next Wednesday. Many thanks. Best wishes, Jorge ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jorge J. Kohanoff, Director | Voice: (+44/0) 2890 976032 Atomistic Simulation Centre | Fax: (+44/0) 2890 973110 Queen's University Belfast | e-mail: j.kohanoff@qub.ac.uk Belfast BT7 1NN, Northern Ireland (UK) | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Postdoctoral position at Queen's University Belfast (UK) Applications are invited for a 4-year EPSRC-funded postdoctoral position, starting 1 November 2014, to carry out theoretical and computational work in the field of bulk nanobubble dispersions. Nanobubble dispersions are a novel type of nanoscale bubble system. Their most peculiar characteristic is the remarkable longevity of the bubbles of which they are composed. Existing theories predict that bubbles this small should dissolve extremely quickly but in nanobubble suspensions tiny bubbles persist for weeks and even months. Thus, to fully exploit the potential benefits of nanobubble suspensions, major developments are needed in the science underpinning their existence and behaviour. The overall aim of this project is to study the underlying mechanisms by which these nanobubble dispersions come to exist and persist, and to explain some of their unusual properties using a combination of both experimental and theoretical work. Applicants should have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics or another relevant subject. A good background in Statistical Mechanics, computer simulation and computer programming is essential. Experience in molecular dynamics simulation of liquids, cavitation, and parallel computing, are also highly desirable. The candidate willbe based at Queen's University Belfast, and will collaborate closely with researchers at Daresbury Laboratory and in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, where the experimental part of this project will be carried out. The project also involves collaboration with industry. Applicants should complete an online application form, available from the following website: https://hrwebapp.qub.ac.uk/tlive ... gx&LANG=USA, providing an up-to-date CV, a letter of motivation, and the names and contact details of at least three academic referees. Informal enquiries may be directed to Prof. Jorge Kohanoff (j.kohanoff@qub.ac.uk)or Dr Gareth Tribello (g.tribello@qub.ac.uk) Anticipated interview date: Monday 15 September 2014 Salary scale: £31,342 - £37,394 per annum, depending on experience. Closing date for applications: Wednesday 20 August 2014 |
