We sure had money that year:
  Everyone bought at the dorm entrance
cigarettes our dads would never spurge on
  We spent hours putting on makeup
when our moms only had brown soap and detergent

We sure had money that year:
  Always traveled by taxi in cold weather,
when mom and dad would paddle against howling winds to work

We sure had money that year:
  Racked up monthly calling charges
more than the cost of mom and dad's only SMS cell phone
  That SMS cell phone was so simple,
yet so reliable when mom and dad wanted to hear from us
  Their constant reminders were never well received
Only when money ran short would we call mom and dad - to ask for more

We sure had money that year:
  Gambled liked a whale, be it bridge or Majiang
Who cared what our parents had for breakfast, lunch and dinner?
  who cared if our parents never saw any gift from us,
so long as our sweethearts were well cared for around the clock?

We sure had money that year:
  Attended each other's birthday parties
but forgot to phone home on our own mom's and dad's birthdays

When did we learn to sleep in til noon,
  then call for hotel room service to send up food while we were all still in bed?

When did we give up on our childhood dreams of becoming a hero
  and focused on being pesky hotel guests?

- 这还不算什么,带锯粗切而己,因为是韵文,真麻烦的在后面...
- 平仄押韵: 己略分段,待查 "Rhyming Dictionary" 工具书
- "奢侈" 下为 "派场",可用 "We sure lived large" 但难和后段 "真没钱...真希望未来有钱..."  相映
- 口气 / 用字:
- 当事人 We 自己回忆悔过更恳切,所以不用 "It seemed..." 开头
- compensate 不像其他字常用,而且多涉及金钱,贬低悔过原意
-  "make up for" 不仅简单,含义较广,更能暴露 "[想彻底]补偿" 的原意
- mom and dad 比 parents 更亲切
- "让" 是 "Let" , "Make" 是 "逼" !!.. "Clean it up!"  "Make me!" "除非你逼我!"
- 诸如此类的细密问题很多,足以用来测试回答者的英语程度,何况还是韵文...所以说是很难
- 例如: "大学之路  承载了多少父母的期待"
      "Afford" 绝对不行,问题是如何纠正 ? 路非人,不好用 "Shoulder" [动词]
      "承重" = "load bearing" 可试 "bore..." 但 "upheld..." 兼顾 "承"  "撑"... 似乎更达意
      等等! "大学之路" 强调旅程 "journey" 想想 "bolstered" 好像比 "upheld" 更好一点...
