Since the policy of plumbum-forbiddion was released by the EU, there have been more and more serious competitions about the research and exploration of the leadless piezoelectric ceramics. LiNbO3 Ceramics have been attracted the extensive attentions of the researchers from all over the world due to their better properties. In recent years, wet chemical method has been quicklly developed in the synthesis of ceramic powers in order to produce nano-scale ceramics with homogeneous compositions and small crystals. Hydrothermal Synthesis is one of the wet chemical methods, and the ceramic powders obtained according to this method have higher calcined activatity because they need not high-temperature calcination, and the crystal growth with large scale, the formation of defect and the introduction of impurities can be avoided.
In this work, simple hydrothermal synthesis, high pressure hydrothermal synthesis and microwave hydrothermal synthesis methods were introduced to produce LiNbO3 nano power. And the effect of reaction temperature, reaction time, the ration of chemical reagents, the concentrations of the start materials, the surfactant on the properties of nano powder, and the products were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR and TG-DSC, and the results were obtained as followings:

the optimum conditions of simple hydrothermal synthesis are : the reaction temperature is 260 ¡æ, and the reaction time is 24 h,the concentration of raw materials is 0.1mol/L, the ration of chemical reagents (Li / Nb)is 1.10.The Synthesized LiNbO3 nano-particles is generally square column aspect and spherical,the size of particles is between 50-200 nm. The analysis of laser particle showed that: the distribution is adqulis, the size of coacervate is 89 nm.

2 the optium conditions of the high pressure hydrothermal process: the hydrothermal reaction temperature was 260¡æ, reaction time 22h, the ratio of Li/Nb 1.10, concentration of start material 1.0mol/L, stiring rate 300r/min, SDS content 0.5 %. The  LiNbO3 nano powder obtained by high pressure hydrothermal synthesis was spheric in shape with particle diameter of 86nm, which was uniformly distributed with aggregations  in the nano particles to some degree.
3 Calcination of the nano powder obtained through hydrothermal method. The microstructure and morphology of LiNbO3 ceramic calcined under different temperatures was studied by XRD,SEM characterizations, and its piezoelectricity was also tested. It is shown that, hydrothermal powders exhibited good calcination properties, and with calcined temperature 1080¡æ, the compacted LiNbO3 ceramic with high density was obtained. The calcined temperature had a larger effect on the piezoelectricity of the calcined bulk of LiNbO3. LiNbO3 obtained through calcination below 1100¡æ had better piezoelectricity with piezoelectric constant of 60pC/N.
