Dear Dr. XXi,

The paper that you submitted for consideration for publication in Journal of Neurochemistry has now been reviewed by the Editorial Board.

Although the reviewers found the work to be potentially interesting, they were unable to recommend acceptance. Their reasons are given in the enclosed reports. You will see that a number of points were raised that would need to be addressed before your manuscript could be considered for publication in Journal of Neurochemistry. In particular, some control experiments were missing, and the ms. needs to be carefully proofread by an English native speaker, also for typographical errors. Furthermore, the reviewers pointed out a lack of detailed novel functional insights, i.e. judged the advance to be incremental. Since Journal of Neurochemistry aims to publish work that provides a significant mechanistic advance, this aspect should be expanded on.

Should you, in due course, have additional and more substantive data and can deal fully with all criticisms, we would be willing to consider a new version ("Resubmission" with a new manuscript ID). Please be aware that upon resubmission, we might invite new referees who might raise new or additional concerns.

I am sorry to give you disappointing news on this occasion, but would like to thank you for considering Journal of Neurochemistry for publication of your work. I hope that the reports are helpful should you wish to develop the work further or submit elsewhere.
