Learning Landscape Ecology: A Practical Guide to Concepts and Techniques

~ OVERVIEW ~
This new practical guide provides a "hands-on" approach to learning essential concepts and techniques of landscape ecology. The fundamental knowledge gained will enable students and practitioners of landscape ecology to address current landscape-level issues in ecology and resource management more effectively.
It is an ideal companion to the text, Landscape Ecology in Theory and Practice, by Monica G. Turner, Robert H. Gardner, and Robert V. O¡¯Neill, also published by Springer-Verlag. The book is organized into nine sections comprising 20 chapters, each consisting of an exercise focusing on an important point in the Turner et al. text. However, the exercises cover widely relevant topics that can be studied in conjunction with other landscape ecology texts. Several suggested course sequences are provided in the book, with different exercises appropriate for undergraduate- and graduate-level courses.
Many different approaches are presented in the exercises, including fieldwork, group discussion, thought problems, written exercises, and a wide variety of computer exercises involving simulation models and spatial analysis software. The accompanying CD-ROM includes the software, spatial data sets, spatial models, and spreadsheets needed for the exercises. All of the computer exercises have been designed for use in nearly any college or university computing facility.
