Compound Identification Analyst at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB) at DTU invites applications for a position in the glycoprofiling efforts at the Center.
The CFB focuses on developing the next generation of cell factories deploying advanced metabolic engineering techniques, and the development of bioprocesses for a sustainable production of chemicals and high value compounds including therapeutic proteins.
The overall mission of CFB is to contribute to research, development and innovation within the following scientific areas:
Discovery of novel biosynthesis routes and exploration of compounds suitable for a sustainable bioproduction and shortening the time of production strain development through intelligent design of cell factories.
The center comprises 10 research units (9 scientific sections conducting basic research and a Group conducting translational research).

Analytics Group Overview
The Analytics Core is a key group at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, the purpose is to provide a reliable, accurate and high through put analytical services for the center as a whole. The analytical platforms used, are primarily be based on state of the art mass spectrometry technologies, using either GC or HPLC separation technologies.
There are five analytical areas that the Analytics Core addresses
1.        Analysis and quantification of known compounds in biological samples (Target Compound Analysis/ Metabolite Profiling)
2.        Analysis and relative quantification of unknown compounds in biological samples (Metabolomic Analysis)
3.        Analysis and identification of unknown compounds in biological samples (Compound ID)
4.        Analysis, identification (including post translational modifications) and quantification of proteins in biological samples (Proteomics)
5.        Analysis, identification and quantification of sugar molecules which are extracted from proteins in biological samples (Glycan Profiling)

The group will comprise of six members and it is expected that individuals will be frequently interacting and actively supporting other team members in their day to day tasks

Job Description: Compound Identification Analyst

This is a permanent position and the person appointed will be responsible for setting up, developing and growing a state-of-the-art Compound Identification analysis unit at CFB. The unit will operate within the general analytic core facility at CFB, and the primary duty will be the extraction and isolation of bioactive natural products from the Metabolic Engineering for Natural Products (MENP) section within the center.  This unit will collaborate with other groups both within the center and externally.

Key responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for the daily operation of the unit under the supervision of the Head of Analytics.
The appointee will be responsible for:
•        The extraction, isolation, and identification of unknown compounds  from microbial sources
•        LC-MS Method development and validation
•        Writing and maintaining SOP¡¯s
•        Setting up protocols and training other personnel to the highest standards
•        Coordinating the work undertaken by the lab with CFB and others.
•        Preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication
•        Collaborating/initiating grant applications
•        Proactively helping other team members within the Analytical Core

Essential qualifications
The ideal candidate will have
•        Significant experience working in a relevant environment
•        Proven expertise/ experience in Compound Identification
•        Have significant HPLC and/or Mass Spectrometry method development
•        Expertise in the isolation of natural products
•        Experience in organic synthesis and/or interpretation of mass spectra
•        An interest in driving technical development based on rigorous science
•        Capable of working on their own initiative when appropriate
•        Proven ability to work creatively in a team environment
•        Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills
•        Strong oral and written skills
