It seems that electronic devices just keep getting smaller. Scientists in the United States have    (1)    the creation of the first transistor with only two dimensions.

A transistor is a small electronic device that transfers or carries electronic current. The device helps to create an electrical circuit that provides power to other devices. Scientists hope these new 2D transistors will be used for building high-resolution displays that need very little   (2)    .

Two groups of scientists created these 2D transistors. One group is at the Argonne National Laboratory outside of Chicago, the other group is at the University of California. They report that the transistors are only a few atoms thick, any layer of any    (3)    that thin may be considered two-dimensional.

Usually transistors are made with the element silicon. But the scientists say they use materials that have even better electronic    (4)    . Computer processors, memory chips, TV screens and other electronic devices contain billions of silicon-based transistors. But these very small electrical parts have certain limitations.

Dimitris Ioannou is an electrical engineering professor at George Mason University. He says the traditional transistor has been improved as much as it can be. He adds that researchers have been looking for new materials with special    (5)    . He says researchers want transistors to be see through and soft.

"If the layers are very thin the transistor can become    (6)    , so it doesn't have to be rigid, like it would be in a silicon chip. So people can think of applications like wearable electronics, like, you know, television screens and other things," said Ioannou.

These new transistors can also carry higher current. They also can move the current much faster than    (7)    transistors. This is important for high-definition screens.

Dimitris Ioannou says the scientific success could    (8)    very useful in the future.

"This is the first time every layer is a single [atom] layer, more or less, and that's the    (9)    of it. Now, how good and how useful it will be, it's still in research phase, but it certainly is an advance," said Ioannou.

Scientists say there is no good method for printing a large number of these new transistors on one base material,    (10)    .

A popular expression goes, "What does not kill us makes us stronger." But when it comes to being bullied, that may not be the case.

Increasing evidence suggests that the effects of being bullied do not end with childhood. The psychological and physical damage, such as anxiety and depression, can continue into adulthood.

A recent Duke University report shows that bullying can have permanent effects.
¶Å¿Ë´óѧ×îеÄÒ»·Ý±¨¸æÏÔʾ£¬ÆÛÁè»áÓÐÓÀ¾ÃÐÔµÄÓ°Ïì¡£

The report is based on research that began in 1993. The Great Smoky Mountains study observed 1,420 children from western North Carolina for years. The scientists followed the people as they went through childhood to teen years and into young adulthood.
¸Ã±¨¸æÊÇ»ùÓÚ1993Ä꿪ʼ½øÐеÄÒ»ÏîÑо¿¡£¡¶´óÎíɽÑо¿¡·¶àÄêÀ´¶ÔÀ´×Ô±±¿¨ÂÞÀ³ÄÉÖÝÎ÷²¿µÄ1420Ãû¶ùͯ½øÐÐÁ˹۲졣¿Æѧ¼Ò¸ú×Ùµ÷²éÁËÕâЩÈ˵ÄͯÄêµ½ÇàÉÙÄêÔÙµ½ÇàÄêÆÚ¡£

The research showed that those who were bullied can develop long-term mental health problems as young adults. It also showed that adults who were bullied as children have higher levels of C-reactive protein, or CRP. CRP is a sign of nervous tension on the body. Higher levels of CRP usually mean health problems later in life.

The Great Smoky Mountains study also found something completely new about bullying. It seems that the bullies were healthier than the bullied ¨C at least when talking about CRP levels. The study found that those subjects who had never been bullied, but had bullied others, had the lowest levels of CRP.
´óÎíɽÑо¿ÔÚÆÛÁèÉÏ»¹·¢ÏÖÁËһЩȫеĶ«Î÷¡£Ëü·¢ÏÖ£¬ÆÛÁèÕ߱ȱ»ÆÛÁèÕ߸ü½¡¿µ -- ÖÁÉÙÔÚ˵C-·´Ó¦µ°°×º¬Á¿Ê±ÊÇÈç´Ë¡£¸ÃÑо¿·¢ÏÖ£¬ÄÇЩ´ÓδÊÜÆÛÁ裬ֻÆÛÁè¹ý±ðÈ˵ÄÑо¿¶ÔÏóµÄC-·´Ó¦µ°°×º¬Á¿¸üµÍ¡£

William Copeland led the study. He is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. He says a higher social standing for bullies might explain their lower CRP levels.
William Copeland¸ºÔðÕâÏîÑо¿¡£ËûÊÇλÓÚ±±¿¨ÂÞÀ³ÄÉÖÝÖв¿µÄ¶Å¿Ë´óѧҽѧÖÐÐĵÄһλ¾«Éñ²¡Ñ§ºÍÐÐΪ¿Æѧ½ÌÊÚ¡£Ëû˵£¬ÆÛÁèÕßÉç»áµØλ¸ü¸ßÒ²Ðí¿ÉÒÔ½âÊÍΪºÎËûÃǵÄC-·´Ó¦µ°°×º¬Á¿¸üµÍ¡£

Experts on bullying worry about that message. Catherine Bradshaw is deputy director of the Johns Hopkins Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence in Baltimore, Maryland. She warns that lower CRP levels might just represent a difference in the bullies' basic biology. Ms. Bradshaw says that a health gain should not be understood as permission to bully.

Mr. Copeland says bullying is a serious childhood experience that is no longer found only at schools and on playgrounds. Online or cyberbullying can make even a child's home feel unsafe. Some children who are bullied have killed themselves. Sometimes bullies even kill their victims.
